Agnes Rater

Memorial Service:  Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Casey with the family greeting friends at the church one hour prior to services. Following services please join the family for fellowship and desserts in honor of Agnes. Graveside services following dessert at the Rosehill Cemetery in Menlo, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Agnes Rater Memorial Fund.

Agnes Irene Roll, Sisler, Christensen, Rater was born March 27, 1918, in Greenfield, Iowa, the daughter of Christine and Charles (Charly) Roll. She passed away on Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 92.

She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1936. She was valedictorian and also received many business awards including a Scholarship, however life would not lead her down this path as she had a great caring for people beginning as a Candy Striper at a teenage age in the Jones Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa, later to work as a nurse in the Atlantic Memorial Hospital and retiring as a nurse and an X-Ray Technician at the Dexter Clinic in Dexter, Iowa.

In her later years she enjoyed playing cards, wintering in the Rio Grande Valley in Southern Texas, working at the Iowa State Fair and playing in a little kitchen band, the Congrecats, that traveled around and even played for Gov. Brandstad.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gayle Wesley Sisler, George Paul Christensen, and Clifford Rater; sister, Leona Brockert; brothers, Art Roll and Lawrence Roll; grandson, Peter James Branson; and her faithful poodle "Missy".

Mourning her death are her children, Gayle (Thelma) Sisler of Creston, Iowa, Barbra (Larry) Branson of Menlo, Iowa, Scott (Mary) Sisler of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; grandchildren, Kathy (Chad) Edwards, Greg (Debbie) Sisler, and Kevin (Diana) Sisler; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Sisler; step grandchildren, Valerie (Tate) Smock and Vicki (Jim) Maas; great step grandchildren, Claire and Elli Smock; her best friend Wanda Osborn of Dexter, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
