Allen Micheal DeVan was born on May 27, 1984, the son of Billy Allen DeVan and Anita K. Warren in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at his home in Johnston, Iowa, at the age of 40.
Allen was raised by his mother Anita in Des Moines with his twin brother and little sister. They attended church every Sunday, Allen making sure to sit closest to whoever had candy. A deep faith and trust in God was instilled in Allen at a young age that he continued to carry with him through life. Allen stayed active by participating in track, running at Nationals in Houston with his twin brother Billy, playing basketball, and spending as much time with his family and friends as he could. Allen graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 2002. On July 2, 2016, he was united in marriage to Nancy Marie Wolfe at the Celebration Barn in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They started their life together with their four children residing in Des Moines, and settling into their home in Johnston.
Always a kid at heart, Allen found a career he loved, playing in the dirt. Allen was a heavy equipment operator and was employed with Metro Waste Authority at the time of his passing.
Allen was an avid Dallas Cowboys football fan, sharing this passion (and team choice) with his kids. From a young age, he had a love for basketball that never faded; especially becoming a dad, watching and playing with his boys. When he became a girl dad, he secretly let his daughter paint his fingernails which had to be removed as soon as the polish dried. Allen was his happiest around a crowd of people during barbeques in the backyard and camping with family and friends. Allen made sure every holiday was celebrated and everyone was invited to be together. At any event, all the kids were top on the priority list for Allen. This past summer, several weekends were spent camping at Cutty's making memories with family and friends, old and new. Many evenings and weekends Allen was fishing with his youngest son Anthony, finally touching fish to take it off the hook. When he wasn't keeping his family on the go, you could find him relaxing with his favorite TV shows, enjoying his sunflower seeds, beef jerky and fruity candy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roland H. Warren, Laura Warren and Bonita Claybrooke.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Marie DeVan; his children, Allen Micheal DeVan, Jr., Camron Kealii Ramsey, Madison Elizabeth Nelson and Anthony Michael DeVan; mother, Anita Warren; father, Billy DeVan; father-in-law, John Wolfe (Chris); mother-in-law, Renee Cook (James); siblings, Billy A. DeVan (Amanda L. Zimmerman), Amanda E. Salah (Salah A. Salah) and Marcus DeVan; brothers-in-law, Ian K. Ensell (Vanessa) and James M.A. Cook (Makayla); sisters-in-law, Christy E. Moreland (Ryan), Nicole C. Ensell, Monique M. Beighley and Toni L. Cook; grandmother, Barbara DeVan; aunts; uncles; nephews; nieces; Godson, Maverick Morgan; his favorite aunt Diane Warren and a host of family and friends.
