Ardith Benton, 85, of Greenfield

Graveside Services:  Will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Cemetery.  Pastor Melinda Stonebraker will officiate the service.  The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

Family Visitation:  The family will greet friends on Sunday, August 6, 2023, at the Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Memorials:  May be directed to the Ardith Benton Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.

Ardith Louise (Roberts) Benton was born October 10, 1937, the daughter of Wayne and Helen (Clark) Roberts in Greenfield, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 85.

Ardith was raised in Adair County and graduated from Greenfield High School. She was united in marriage to Marion Benton on February 2, 1957, in Creston, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Roger Wayne, Rory Eugene, and Rita Louise. They lived in Greenfield all of their lives.

Ardith and Marion were employed by Wayne Roberts at Roberts Produce until 1964, then they purchased and operated the produce until 1975. Ardith attended Southwestern Iowa Community College and then Drake University for her degree in teaching. She taught for over 40 years at Greenfield/Nodaway Valley Schools. She encouraged her students to be their best selves. She often anonymously purchased school lunches, clothing, and other necessities for children in need. She treasured time with her family, helping to raise her grandchildren, buying antiques and going to sales and auctions, reading, and fishing. She especially loved cuddling her dogs Lucy and Ethel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Marion Benton; parents; brother Clark Roberts; brother-in-law, Albert Grothen; infant sister, Deborah Jane Roberts; infant nephew, Allen Eugene Grothen; and great grandson, Zayden Lee Christensen-Benton.

She is survived by her two sons, Roger Benton (Mary) and Rory Benton (Laura); daughter, Rita Eble; grandchildren, Aaron Benton (Ann), Adam Benton (Kelly), Amanda Symns (Hardie), and Demi Eble (Riley); great grandchildren, Madelyn Benton, Paislee Benton and Zander Symns; sisters, Alta Gilbert (Gil) and Becky Kniep; other relatives and friends.
