Betty Greenwalt

Betty Greenwalt passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield. 

Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fontanelle United Methodist Church. Pastor Cathy Nutting will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial at the Greenfield Cemetery. The Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements.  

Open Visitation: Will be held on Monday, February 16th, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Monday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle. 

Memorials: To the Betty Greenwalt memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date.

Betty Faye Greenwalt was born April 20, 1934, to Dan and Flossie (Ray) Hager in Casey, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 80.

Betty was raised in the Casey area and graduated from Casey High School in 1952. She worked in Casey at the grocery store and restaurant. On July 4, 1956, she was united in marriage to Harold E. Christensen in Maryville, Missouri. To this union five sons and a baby girl were born. They resided in Greenfield raising their children. Betty worked many years as a nurse’s aide at the Greenfield Manor.  On July 8, 1989, she was united in marriage to Dean Greenwalt at the Methodist Parsonage in Fontanelle.

Betty was a long time member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, bird watching, fishing, bowling, camping, family gatherings and most of all she loved her boys.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Harold E. Christensen in 1979 and Dean Greenwalt in 2010; two brothers, Orville Hager (Doris) and Dale Hager (Donna); brother-in-law, Leonard Mains; step-son, Ron Christensen; step-daughter, Sharon McClelland; and her precious little angel.

She is survived by her five sons, Danny Harold Christensen and wife Kamma of Fontanelle, Douglas Eugene Christensen and friend Carol of Fontanelle, Dale Edward Christensen and wife Brenda of Greenfield, Dennis Earl Christensen and wife Beth of Creston and Daryl Fay Christensen and wife Julie of Bridgewater; step children, Deana LeAnn Pitsenbarger and husband Stacey of Anita, Daniel Dean Greenwalt and friend Kelly of Des Moines and Merle Christensen and wife Laine of Laquay, Missouri; 24 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Mains of Indianola; other relatives and friends.
