Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena with burial in the Victoria Township Cemetery, south of Massena. A luncheon will follow the committal service at the Legion Hall in Massena.
Family Visitation: Will be held on Saturday, January 5th, one hour prior to services at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Bruno Jr. (Sonny) Reichardt memorial fund to be established by the family.
Bruno Jr. (Sonny) Reichardt was born November 19, 1932, at home in Victoria Township, Massena, Iowa, the son of Bruno Paul and Ethel (Burch) Reichardt Lucas. He passed away December 20, 2012, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 80.
Sonny lived on the farm with his parents and sisters, helping with farm chores, he attended country school, his favorite subjects were writing and arithmetic, his favorite teacher was Dorothy McElfish. He attended church at Saint Peter’s United Church of Christ south of Massena, Iowa and was baptized on April 5, 1959. He loved fishing and hunting especially with his sister Eleanor and brothers-in-law Lloyd and Terry and his nephews.
Sonny entered the Atlantic Care Center in 1985. He occupied his time putting puzzles together, delivering the News Telegraph, playing bingo and cards with friends and relatives. Sonny had a great memory. He was able to remember names and recall many farming events that happened in his life. He especially enjoyed attending family reunions. Sonny so appreciated the many friendships he made over the years.
Sonny is survived by his sister, Nancy Hepler and husband Terry of Atlantic; nephews, John Hepler and wife Cheri of Omaha, and Troy Hepler of Atlantic; great nephews, Trent Hepler and friend Bethany, Drew Hepler and wife Nicole and Heath Hepler; great niece, Hillary Hepler and friend Ethan; many cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Lloyd Haley; nephew, Paul Hepler; grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Sonny’s family wishes to express their gratitude for all acts of kindness shown to them in this time of sorrow. Most of all they wish to thank those who took the time to include Sonny in their lives.
