Carol Shinn

Funeral Services: Will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Orient Plymouth Congregational Church in Orient with burial in the Moon Cemetery, rural Macksburg. Rev. Phil Price will officiate the service. 

Open Visitation: Will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Thursday, July 29, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Memorials: Memorials may be directed to Orient Plymouth Congregational Church. 

Carol Lenore Shinn was born June 22, 1934, in Macksburg, Iowa, the daughter of Marjorie Jean (Porter) and Ralph Burdett Eyerly. She passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa, at the age of 87.

Carol grew up in Macksburg until she married Jerry Frank Shinn on her 18th birthday in 1952. Carol and Jerry were married 59 years. She followed Jerry through his Naval AirCorps…1st to Memphis, TN where their 1st daughter, Debra Jean was born in 1953; she was followed by their 2nd daughter Susan Elaine in 1955 and in 1959 Jerry Frank, Jr. was born. Carol lived in Rodman, Ellston, Lake View, Waterloo and then Creston, Iowa.

While living in Creston, she traveled on multiple bus tours with her best friends Beverly Eyerly and Lois Pals. Carol also enjoyed family time, attending and watching many baseball games, basketball games, boating and making Christmas goodies with Lois to share with family and friends. She loved her grandkids and great grandkids: Debra and Lee Jenness gave her 2 granddaughters, Allison and Sarah, plus 3 great grandsons and 4 great granddaughters. From Susie and Mark Hardy’s family…John Logan Hardy, James Jerry Hardy and Jessica Marie Menu. From Jerry Jr and Sue Shinn she has 3 grandkids…Ben Olson, Emily Pennick and Leah Harrell; then 5 great grandsons and 2 great granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Shinn Sr; daughter, Debra Jean Jenness; brother, Gary Eyerly; and sister, Marjorie Kay Eyerly.

She is survived by her children, Susan Hardy and husband Mark of Tucson, AZ and Jerry Shinn, Jr. and wife Sue of Tucson, AZ; 8 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Pals and husband Dale of Orient; sister-in-law, Beverly Eyerly of Johnston, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends.
