Darrell Jameson died peacefully Friday, November 24th, 2023, at the Greenfield Nursing Home.
Darrell was born August 7, 1937, in Adair County. He was 3rd youngest of 9 born to Kathrine (Funke) and Clyde Jameson. He grew up on a farm in rural Lee Township in a small home. Throughout his youth he helped out on the farm and showed livestock for 4-H. He and his siblings enjoyed going to town on the weekends, attending the county fairs, and 4th of July celebrations.
Darrell held many jobs throughout his working career including operating Skelly’s, delivering gas to rural farms, opened up the Tiger Den Game Room for the youth of Greenfield, started selling night crawlers for extra cash using the honor system, managing the COOP Car Care Center and finally working at Schildberg’s until he retired. He especially loved his other “jobs” as a volunteer Greenfield fire fighter for 40+ years. He served as Chief during the late 1980’s and 90’s, he coached a women’s softball team called the Jameson Flyers, and enjoyed his time serving his community in many ways.
Darrell married Alice Griswold on September 17, 1966. Together they had 4 children Mary, Anne, Dan, and Tim. They lived just outside of Greenfield for many years before moving in town in the late 1990’s.
Darrell was a life-long sports fan. When he wasn’t busy with projects or work you could find him following his beloved Hawkeyes, Cubs and whatever other sport was on TV. He especially loved his Greenfield/ Nodaway Valley teams and could be seen at games for decades. He supported them further by helping run concessions, grilling for games with Coach Riley, and helping on the football sidelines with the chain gang (and getting in game insights from Coach Daut).
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Mary, brothers Keith, Bob, Marion, Dick, Wayne and Ron, sister Eileen, and many extended family members. He is survived by his wife Alice Jameson; sister Bonnie (Stalder); children Anne Eslinger, Dan (Michelle) and Tim (Christy); grandchildren Chase, Abbey, Travis (Rikki), Trevor (Lyndsey), Taden, Kiersten, and Parker; and great-grandchildren Blake, Kingston, Taylen, Tatum, and Leighton; other relatives and friends.
