David Bissell

Celebration of Life Graveside Services: Will be held at the Massena Center Cemetery in Massena on Monday, May 18, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. (CDC guidelines for COVID-19, Social Distancing will be practiced). Pastor Eric Schubert will officiate the service. The Steen Funeral Home in Massena is in charge of the professional arrangements.  

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena on Sunday, May 17, 2020, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Social distancing will be observed, with no more than 10 people permitted in the building at any given time). 

Memorials: May be directed to the David Bissell Jr. memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

David Alan Bissell, Jr. died at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, as a result of complications from lung cancer.

David, the son of David and Larita Bissell, was born June 10, 1958, at the Laredo Air Force Base in Laredo, Texas. In 1961, he moved with his family to Atlantic, Iowa. In 1963, the family moved to Massena, Iowa, where he has resided for the rest of his life. He graduated in 1977 from C&M High School.

He married Patricia Herbert on October 22, 1983 and to this union, two children were born.

David joined his dad to work at Massena Pelgas, where he was employed for 35 years. He became plant manager when his dad passed away in 1998. In 2014, he became the plant operations manager at the 21st Century Co-op in Massena.

David is a member of the Massena United Methodist Church, the Massena Volunteer Fire Department, the Massena Chamber of Commerce, and the Anita Golf Course.

He is survived by his two children - Jackson & Brooke Bissell of Massena and Sammi & Tyler Wangsness of Ankeny, IA. Two grandsons - Beckett and Jayden Bissell. One grandcat – Tuxedo Wangsness. His life partner - Kim Howard of Massena. Mother – Larita and Pete Lesan of Kellerton, IA. Sister - Cherie & Jeff Roadcap of Broadway, VA. Aunts and Uncles - Dick and Eleanor Bissell, Lola Hodge, Linda Bissell, and Wanda & Ted Kapera. Nephew -Nate & Yang Brown. Many cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Bissell. Grandparents – Royce & Mildred Bissell and John & Ella Sieck, Aunts and Uncles – C. Lynn Bissell, Byron & Carla Bissell, Norman & Dawn Bissell, Bruce Bissell, Melvin Hodge, and Mary Ann Keim. Cousin - Karen Bissell.

David loved his music, golf, Shovels, crop scouting in the T-bucket and more than anything, his family and friends.
