Funeral Services: Will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery with full military graveside rites by the Fontanelle American Legion Carlson Post No. 247. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service.
Open Visitation: Will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Wednesday evening at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Dean Archer memorial fund to be established by the family.
Dean Manson Archer was born July 6, 1927, the son of Clyde and Rachel (Martin) Archer in Adair County, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 91.
Dean attended country school and graduated from Richland High School in 1945. He served his country in the United States Army from 1945-1947. He was to go before fall harvest in 1945, but his dad needed him to help harvest, so the Army said o.k. After he came home from the Army he got married to Verlene Herr. To this union four children were born: Angela, Stanley, Randall and Gloria.
Dean farmed all his life. He never moved, loved his hogs and cattle and married not only to Verlene, but to the farm. He enjoyed visits from family and friends, quite time with dogs and wheel of fortune.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruth Foster and his twin sister Dorothy Johnson; two grandsons, Ruben Wortman (stillborn) and Colt Archer; brothers-in-law, Arnold, Wilfred, Elton and Edgar Herr; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Mitchell and Velma Victora.
He is survived by his wife, Verlene Archer of Orient; daughter, Angela Wortman (special friend Dave Johnson) of Orient, sons, Stanley Archer and wife Vicki of Johnston and Randall Archer and wife Dawn of Cumming, daughter, Gloria Ernst and husband Neil of Greenfield; seven granddaughters, Atalie Badgett, Adria Wortman, Amanda (Todd) Esbeck, Alexis Archer, Mercedes Archer, Lacey (Adam) Brommel and Jessie (Andrew) Springer; 15 great grandchildren; two step grandsons; two step great grandsons; sisters-in-law, Mary Sherley, Helen Herr, Maxine Herr and Dorothy Herr; other relatives and friends.
