Dean grew up in Fontanelle, Iowa and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1964. Dean was proud that he lettered in football his freshman year and later became captain of the football team. He also played basketball during his years in school and spent his summers working for farmers.
On June 26, 1965, he was united in marriage to Pamela Anne Jensen at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield. From this union two sons were born, Todd Allen and Jeffrey Dean.
Dean worked for Feeders Service and Hansen Feed Services for many years and subsequently worked at Cardinal Glass before retiring in 2011. Dean shared his time and talent helping those in need in his community. He volunteered for the Greenfield Fire Department for over 20 years, served as President of the Booster Club, and President of the Greenfield Country Club.
Dean was immensely proud of his sons and their accomplishments. He always appreciated visits from his grandchildren and loved making memories with them.
He especially enjoyed spending time with friends during his Friday afternoon drives around the country and taking trips to casinos. Bowling, golfing, playing cards and games, especially poker and pitch, and traveling were among his favorite activities. Dean was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeyes fan. He was fond of watching them play and listening to Dolph, Ed, and Bobby.
