Dorothy May Johnson was born on July 6, 1927 in Adair County IA, one of three children born to Clyde M. and Rachel V. (Martin) Archer. She entered into rest at Hospice with Heart in Glenwood, IA on August 26, 2011 at the age of 84.

Dorothy graduated from Richland High School in 1945. She was a tenacious basketball player and class valedictorian. She attended Teachers' College in Red Oak and upon certification taught in one-room school houses as a young lady. In later years she served her community as a health care worker. She also influenced many lives as a long time Sunday School Teacher and spiritual mentor.

On October 6, 1945, Dorothy was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Johnson. To this union, two children were born, Patricia and Robert.

Dorothy can best be remembered as a faithful Christian, good neighbor, and true friend - willing to help whenever there was a need. She was a hard-working farm wife, a caring and concerned mother, loving grandmother and great grandmother. Her deep faith guided her life; and her loving eyes, smile, caring, and kindness touched everyone she met.

Dorothy is survived by her twin brother Dean Archer and sister-in-law Verlene of Orient IA; sister-in-law Mabel (husband Hod) Cook of Oregon; sister-in-law Mary Ann Johnson of Creston IA; two children, Patricia Endres of Pacific Junction IA, and Robert Johnson (wife Rita) of Council Bluffs IA; grandchildren Tammy Enders (special friend Don Kimsey) of Pacific Junction IA, Tina Young (husband Lyle) of Glenwood, Ben Johnson (wife Katie) of Council Bluffs, Rebecca Johnson of Des Moines, and Blake Johnson of Council Bluffs; as well as 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Ruth Foster.
