Earlene Krauth, 83, of Massena

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service:  Will be held in Massena on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Fellowship and refreshments will immediately follow the service in the basement.  Private family burial will be in the Victoria Township Cemetery south of Massena.  The Lamb Funeral Home in Massena is in charge of the professional arrangements.   Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

Family Visitation:  The family will greet friends one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Memorials:  Because Earlene deeply cherished education and her community, please consider a donation in her memory to the Massena Public Library or the Massena Historical Society in lieu of flowers.

E. Earlene Bixler Krauth was born on May 7, 1940, near Corning, Iowa to E. Earl and Amy Eleanor (Swain) Bixler.   She passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha.

Earlene’s family moved to the Massena area when she was three and she attended country school Victoria #8 through 8^th grade.  She graduated from Massena High School in 1958. She attended Iowa State Teachers College (University of Northern Iowa) from 1958-60 to obtain her teaching certificate.   She later returned to complete her degree in education from Drake University in 1968 and obtained her master’s degree in education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1991.

On December 28, 1960, Earlene married Robert D. Krauth at the Massena United Methodist Church.  They bought a farm south of Massena in 1974.

She taught at Anita Elementary and Cumberland-Massena Elementary schools from 1960-1966, took time away to raise her family, and then returned to teaching at Cumberland-Massena Elementary in 1976 until her retirement in 2001.

She was a member of the Massena United Methodist Church. She was also active in her community by volunteering her time with the Massena Public Library board, the Massena Historical Society, the Cass County Hospital Foundation Board, and other community initiatives.  Some of Earlene’s favorite activities were gardening, reading, and traveling to Arizona for the winter. She loved the time she spent with her family, especially her grandson, Sam.

Earlene is survived by daughter, Stephanie Krauth and her husband, Christopher Lindgren of Maryville, Missouri; grandson, Samuel Lindgren of Fort Dodge, Iowa;  sister, Karen Palumbo of Coralville, Iowa; sister-in law, Lavonne Krauth of Newberry, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Amy Bixler; husband, Bob; and son, Scott.
