Edith Marie Buchanan was born on January 23, 1938, to Albert and Mildred (Ledbetter) McIntyre in Sparta, Illinois. She attended school in Sparta where she graduated. She grew up in a large family and was the oldest of seven children. She grew up on a farm of 40 acres where she helped her mom and dad raise chickens and sell eggs. Edith and her family always attended church. At a Bible camp she accepted Jesus as her Savior on August 7, 1951.

On March 9, 1957, she was united in marriage to George Buchanan. To this union four children were born; Steven, Alan, David and Michael. In 1970 the family moved to Stuart, Iowa. After the dissolution of the marriage, Edith operated her own yarn shop for several years. It was during this time she met the love of her life, Joseph Fulton.

In the early 1990's, Edith moved to Greenfield where she lived for about 30 years. She worked in health care up until her retirement. She was a CNA at the Fontanelle nursing home and eventually a home health aide with the Adair County Home Care.

Edith liked to stay busy sewing and knitting Christmas ornaments. She was particularly good at making angels. She was extremely proud to crochet a blanket for each of her grandchildren. She was an avid reader throughout her life, she loved reading about history and politics. She always kept a curious mind. Additionally, she enjoyed watching hockey, football, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren as often as she was able.

Edith relocated to the Altoona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2023 where she discovered new hobbies such as tie-dye and bingo. It was here that she was called to her eternal home in Heaven at the age of 86 by her Savior, Jesus Christ on October 1, 2024. She was surrounded by family.

Edith is preceded in death by her father and mother; son, Steven Buchanan; siblings, Byron, Janice, and Jerry; and Joseph Fulton who was her longtime companion.
