Edward (Ed) Alan Berg Iowa passed away at MercyOne, Des Moines, Iowa on April 25, 2023. Ed was born on May 20, 1953 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the second son of Harold and Lois (Jones) Berg behind older brother Keith Berg of Boone, Iowa.
Ed lived in Homewood, IL for a number of years and moved to Ogden in Junior High. Although school wasn’t where he liked to be, he graduated from Ogden High School in 1971. He worked for Merrill Lamm, farmer in Ogden, then worked as a service manager for Stew Hansen and Pat Clemons, before deciding to farm full-time. In addition to farming on his own, he worked for Rod Pierce and Arnold Sherriff over the years.
He married Cindy Seeley on April 1, 1978. From this marriage, Daniel and Audra came. They divorced a few years later. He then met Kathy (Wedel) over some horse dealings. They were married on February 12,1988 in Kamrar, Iowa. Kathy’s daughter Fallon also became part of the family. Together they had John.
Ed and Kathy’s love of farming moved the family around the countryside. They farmed in Payton, Glidden, Boone, Woodward, and Ogden, before finally settling in Orient. He farmed row crop and hay, but his true joy was the cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; children Dan (Mandy) Berg, Audra (Craig) Ford, Fallon (Leroy) Moore, and John (Brooke) Berg; brother Keith (Susan) Berg; grandchildren Nichole (Lucas) Queck, Dustin Ford, Erin Ford, Kacie Ford, Doug Berg, Paul Berg, Jack Berg, Addy Warrior, Clara Berg, Tucker Moore, and Kollin Moore; 4 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, aunts and uncles.
