Eileen Armstrong was born on a farm in Prussia Township on September 24, 1929, the second of nine children to Kathrine (Funke) and Clyde Jameson. She passed away at the Greenfield Manor on February 15, 2020 at the age of 90.

In 1930 the Jamesons moved to a farm in Lee Township with Eileen and her older brother Keith. Bob, Marion, Dick, Wayne, Darrell, Ron, and Bonnie were added to the family on this farm and lived there until the early 1940’s. Eileen always said that it was a full house with her parents and 8 siblings, all within 14 years of each other, living in a four room house. Eileen initially attended the Lee #3 Country School and then Greenfield High School and graduated in 1947. After graduation she attended “Normal Training” and taught in rural schools in Adair County where some of her students included her younger siblings. Working as a substitute teacher and librarian in the Greenfield School System, her “Servant’s Heart” was evident as she individually mentored many students throughout the years. Eileen used her time and talents to enrich her church, community, and civic organizations her entire life.

On September 8, 1950, Eileen married Verle Armstrong. They shared 54 loving years together raising Doug, Kathy, and Steve. Her large extended family was at the heart of Eileen’s life and they were always welcomed into their home.

They made their home in Greenfield and eventually purchased their dream home, a large Victorian acreage on the edge of town. Together they brought the home back to its glory days and enjoyed hosting many events for family, friends, and community. Tending to her flowers was a special part of her life and brought her much joy. She was always happy to share them with the community during various fundraisers and events at their home.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Verle, brothers Keith, Bob, Marion, Dick, Wayne, and Ron, and many extended family members. Left to carry on Eileen’s legacy are her children Doug (Terry), Kathy (Tim), and Steve (Lori); grandchildren Adam (Deborah), Josh (Sarah), Jake (Molly), Alex (Kara), and Heather (Mike); her great-grandchildren Zander, Safara, Khaleesi, Charley and Sara; and a long list of family and friends.
