Elaine Marie Shannon entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Caring Acres Nursing Center, in Anita, Iowa, at the age of 66.

Elanie was born January 18, 1958 in Greenfield, IA to Donald and Joanne (Waters) Shannon. She grew up the second of seven children on the family farm near Bridgewater, IA. Elaine attended school in Greenfield, IA, graduating from there in May 1979.

After leaving school, Elaine moved to Creston, IA where she worked for many years at a sheltered workshop and at various cleaning jobs. She later moved to Greenfield, IA where she lived until moving to Caring Acres Nursing Center in May 2022.

Elaine loved people and was the unofficial welcoming committee at her parents’ home. She was excited to see anyone who walked in the door and usually had a hug for every visitor. If the visitors happened to include a baby, Elaine was even more excited. She loved babies!

Elaine’s other passion was animals. She loved all animals and wanted to pet and talk to any animal that came across her path.

Throughout her adulthood Elaine had many caretakers and support staff who assisted her in her everyday life. Direct support staff are the unsung heroes in the lives of those with developmental disabilities. Her family will be eternally grateful for everything these individuals did and for the support and love they gave Elaine.

Elaine brought so much joy to her family, friends and nearly everyone she knew. She will be missed by so many.

Elaine is survived by parents, Don and Joanne Shannon; siblings, Wayne (Mary Kay) Shannon of Greenfield, IA, Lisa (Barry) Antisdel of Anita, IA, Janet (Greg) Dix of Pleasant Hill, IA, Chris (Ron) Yarger of Wahoo, NE, Donny (Shannon) Shannon of Fontanelle, IA, and Ranae (Jeff) Thompson of Greenfield, IA; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was proceeded in death by grandparents, Rudolph and Velma Miller, Russel and Lucile Raasch, Robert and Mary Waters; infant nephew, Zachary Thompson.
