Helen Marckmann

Memorial Services: Sunday, February 12, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service.

Helen Leanna Marckmann daughter of Fred and Martha (Baudler) Marckmann was born April 21, 1925, on a farm a mile south of Fontanelle, Iowa where she spent most of her life. She passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle at the age of 86.

Helen was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle where she was baptized May 10, 1925, and confirmed May 28, 1939. She attended school in Fontanelle. She enjoyed helping her mother with cooking and house work and visiting with family and friends. Her brother, Kelly, was a pilot and Helen liked to talk about how he often took her up in his plane. Helen always talked about that. After her parents passed away she lived part time with her brother and family and her sister and family. Later she lived with Eileen and Ray until her health failed and she entered the Good Samaritan Society in July 1999. There she enjoyed participating in group activities especially bingo. She also liked coloring, doing word search puzzles and watching TV, especially Wheel of Fortune and Lawrence Welk. She was always happy to have family and friends stop by to visit her.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Glen Marckmann (Kelly); sister-in-law, Jean Marckmann; and niece, Connie Walter.

She is survived by her sister, Eileen Sorensen and husband Ray of Fontanelle; nieces, Deborah (Steve) Bakerink, Nancy Richardson, Lori (Kent) Candee; nephews, Jerry (Mary) Sorensen, Mike (Dixie) Sorensen, Gary (Kay) Marckmann; many other relatives and friends.
