Angelie Ione Brown was born March 5, 1925 to George W. and Stella (Strong) Brown south of Bridgewater in rural Adams County, Iowa. Ione spent her childhood in the rural Bridgewater area and on a farm east of Prussia Center. She graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1943 as valedictorian. She worked in Des Moines at various jobs before marrying Ervin J. Ehm on February 25, 1945 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Fontanelle. They started farming southeast of Fontanelle. After the arrival of Maurice Allen, April 9, 1946 and Marvin Gene, March 9, 1948, they moved to a farm southwest of Greenfield in 1950. Bonnie Elaine arrived January 1, 1952. In 1995, Ione and Ervin retired from the farm and moved to a new home in the town of Greenfield.
Ione was active in the Women of the Church, served as 4-H leader, taught Sunday School for several years and with Ervin was a sponsor for Luther League for 9 years. She also was a long time member of the neighborhood card club, Happy Hour. She worked hard in her flower and vegetable gardens, tending chickens, sewing for the family, and being a farmwife.
Ione is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ervin; her three children, Maurice (Diana) Ehm of Guthrie Center, Marvin (Faye) Ehm of Decorah, and Bonnie (Henry) Hyda of Waukee; 8 grandchildren: Heather (Dana) LeVasseur, Melissa (Curtis) Pote, Kirstin Ehm (Max Kenkel), Jess (Joni) Ehm, Lydia Ehm, Eden Ehm, Jill Hyda, and Tracey (Bryce) Kolund; 7 great-grandchildren: Porter, Preston, Peyton and Parker LeVasseur; Isabella, Landon, and Lucianna Pote; a niece and a nephew.
