Janet Jones, 82, of Greenfield

Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield, Iowawith burial following in the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Dr. Keith Schweitzer will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. Family Visitation: The family will greet friends at the church on Saturday, March 8, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. 

Memorials: May be directed to the Janet Jones Memorial Fund to be established by the family.

Janet Louise was born February 1, 1943, to Norma Louise “Weese” (Plymesser) Jones and George E. Jones in Greenfield, Iowa. At just 16 months old, Janet tragically lost her father during World War II. When Janet was 6 years old, her mother married Noble Holland, who lovingly raised her as his own.

Janet lived in several towns and went to different schools throughout her childhood. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1961.

Janet was an only child and grew up with her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, whom she was very close with. Caregiving came naturally for Janet, and she devoted her life to her family. She cared for her Grandma Fern Plymesser for many years and was a constant companion who lived with her parents until their deaths. As an adult, she cherished her relationships with her cousins, their children, and even grandchildren. Janet took great joy in taking numerous trips to Colorado to visit her family.

Janet worked several jobs before starting her career in the Adair County Engineer’s Office in 1971. She worked there for 49 years before her retirement in 2020. She was well respected in her position and developed close friendships with many coworkers during that time.

Janet always welcomed the company of anyone who crossed her path. She had an exceptional memory and would regale all with stories from her life and the lives of those she loved. She had a quick-witted sense of humor that was enjoyed by all who knew her.

Janet was a fierce Iowa Hawkeyes fan. Many basketball and football games were watched at Pam and Dean’s along with their sons, Todd and Jeff, and their friends. She enjoyed going to the boys’ sports activities through the years, and in later years would attend events of Todd and Jeff’s children.

Janet’s faith was important to her, and she was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield for many years. Janet was fond of reading and going to the library, where she attended book club with her friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, aunts and uncles, and several cousins.

Janet is survived by her Aunt Neomi Appenzeller in Florida, and many cousins and their families around the country. She will be greatly missed by all of us.
