Mass of Christian Burial: Will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Massena with burial in the Victoria Township Cemetery, south of Massena. Father Phillip Bempong will officiate the service. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.lambfuneralhomes.com. The Lamb Funeral Home of Massena is in charge of professional arrangements.
Open Visitation: Will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Thursday, October 27, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena.
Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Jean Young Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
On the morning of Saturday, October 22, 2022, Jean Young passed away at her home in Atlantic. She was 74 years old.
Mary Jean Waters was born on May 28, 1948, at the Bristow Hotel in Massena, Iowa. Her parents were Terrence John Waters and Kathleen Marie Casey. Jean attended and graduated from the Cumberland & Massena Community School in Massena.
Jean married Charles “Chuck” Fredrick Holste on October 7, 1967, at St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Massena. From this union, they had two children: Joseph Michael Holste and Mitchell Eugene Holste. Chuck passed away on September 19, 1980. Upon his passing, they moved to different areas to try to start new beginnings. Jean, Joe, and Mitch settled in their hometown of Massena.
On February 14, 2001, Jean remarried to Kenneth Young. They were united in marriage at their home in Atlantic, Iowa.
Through the years, Jean has enjoyed playing softball, country dancing, working in her flower garden, shopping for antiques, refinishing furniture, playing darts, and golfing on the women’s league. She especially enjoyed her many trips to Branson, Missouri, with Kenny.
Jean is survived by her husband, Kenneth Young of Atlantic; her children and their wives, Joe and Jennifer Holste of Massena; and Mitch and Rebecca Holste of Massena; her grandchildren, Daniel Holste of Massena; Erin (Cody) Navickas of Littleton, Colorado; Michael Holste of Anita; Nicholas Holste of Massena; Andrew Holste of Omaha, Nebraska; Jacob Holste of Massena; and Camryn Holste of Massena. Jean is also survived by her brother, William Waters of Massena; her sister, Joan (Larry) Carr of Corning; and her sister, Beth Mills of Massena. She is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, T. Michael “Mick” Waters and Timothy Waters; sister, Kathleen “Kim” Wood; brother-in-law, Lary Mills; grand-daughter, Brooke Katherine Holste; and late husband, Charles Fredrick Holste.
