Jeff "Swampy" Thomsen, 60, of Cumberland

Funeral Service: Will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cumberland Community Building in Cumberland with burial following in the Greenwood Cemetery.  A luncheon will be held at the Community Building following the burial.  Pastor Casey Pelzer will officiate the service.  The Lamb Funeral Home in Massena is in charge of the professional arrangements.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com

Open Visitation:  Will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Cumberland Community Building from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Family Visitation:  The family will greet friends on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Community Building from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Memorials:   To Jeff Thomsen Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Jeffrey Mark Thomsen “Swampy” was born October 15, 1963, to Ernest and Karen (Peterson) Thomsen in Greenfield, Iowa. He passed away on June 3, 2024 at UNMC in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 60.
Jeff graduated from C & M Community School district with the class of 1982.

He was united in marriage to Karen D Mauer in 1984 and to this union, two children were born: Sarah and Matthew. On March 29, 2003, he married Rana L Erickson and had two boys, Lane and Jace. Jeff had many joys in life, but his children and grandchildren brought him some of his favorite memories. Jeff was extremely active in his community. He was a board member at the 21st Century Coop and the Cumberland Telephone Company, a member of the Cass County Corn Growers, Iowa Corn Promotion Board, and Cass County Cattlemen, he is an FFA alumni and a former member of the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department. Everyone who knows Jeff knows how much he loved agriculture. You could often find him enjoying the fair with his children, whether it was the county fair or state fair! Jeff enjoyed hunting, racing, raising golden retrievers, and most of all, travelling. Jeff was a listening ear to so many people; he was always ready to lend an ear to anyone who needed it and give advice when needed.

He was preceded in death by his father Ernest Thomsen, his mother in law Joan Erickson, and brother in law Jim Casey.

He is survived by his wife, Rana Thomsen of Cumberland, Iowa; his children, Sarah Doxon (James) of Westminister, Colorado, Matt (Grace) of Elk Horn, Iowa, Lane (Ca’Sarin) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jace (Aila) of Cumberland, Iowa; his grandchildren, Lucian and Rosie Thomsen, Rhodes Doxon, and Ben Thomsen; his mother, Karen Thomsen of Cumberland, Iowa; his sisters, Pam Drummond of Kansas City, Kansas and Patrice Thomsen of Topeka, Kansas; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
