Joanne McMartin

Joanne “Jodi” McMartin passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Heritage House in Atlantic.

Funeral Services: Will be held on Monday, May 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Massena with burial in the Victoria Township Cemetery, Massena.

Family Visitation: Will be held on Sunday, May 6th from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Nebraska Medical Center in care of the Leid Transplant Center in Omaha.

Joanne McMartin was born February 16, 1926, in Massena, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Besse (Knee) Shields. She passed away on Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 86.

Joanne was raised and educated in Massena, Iowa. She graduated from Massena High School. She was united in marriage to Kenneth McMartin on September 3, 1946, in Long Beach, California. To this union five children were born: Gordon, Sherry, Greg, Scot and Merry.

Joanne was a member of the Massena United Methodist Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, was involved in numerous community organizations, and especially loved being with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth McMartin; son, Gordon McMartin and two sisters, Marge Coughlin and Cleojean Phillips.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Auer of Hebron, Maryland and Merry Brunson of Ashland, Nebraska; two sons, Greg McMartin and wife Denise of Massena and Scot McMartin of Las Vegas, Nevada; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Morris Shields of Omaha, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.
