Josie Hoy, 94, of Panora

Funeral Services:  Will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Panora, Iowa, with burial following in the Morrisburg Cemetery north of Stuart.  A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial.  Pastor Casey Brown will officiate the service.  The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.  Online condolences may be left to the family at to be www.lambfuneralhomes.com.

Family Visitation:  The family will greet friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at the First Christian Church in Panora.

Memorials:  May be directed to the Hospice of the Midwest or to the First Christian Church.

Josephine "Josie" Hoy was born on August 27th, 1928, in Guthrie County, Iowa to Thomas P. and Velma G. (McEvoy) Flanery.  She passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, Iowa on May 4th, 2023.

She attended country school in Guthrie County and later went on to earn her GED in Scottsdale, Arizona.  On May 3, 1947, she was united in marriage to Wayne Barker in Stuart, Iowa.  To this union two children were born, Thomas and JoAnn.  Wayne passed away on November 24, 1958.  On February 17, 1960, she married Ernest “Lonnie” Hoy in Panora, Iowa.  To this union one daughter, Rhonda was born.

Josie was a devoted homemaker throughout her life and was employed as a staff member for the Panora congregate meals for seven and a half years before retiring.  In her free time, she indulged in gardening and fishing but mostly enjoyed spending time with her family.      Josie relished the simple joys of life but loved spending time with family above everything else. Her love knew no bounds when it came to her grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Wayne Barker; son, Thomas W. Barker; great grandson, Lonnie Barker II; son-in-law, Jerry Miller; brother, Tony Flanery; and three sisters, Agnes Long, Kathryn Barker and Mary Flanery.

Josie leaves behind a loving husband, Lonnie Hoy; two daughters JoAnn Miller of Phoenix, Arizona and Rhonda (Rod) Huggins of Panora; seven grandchildren, Sheri Griffin, Jerry Miller, Cindy Barker, Lonnie Barker, Jr., Thomas Barker, Jr., Mike Huggins and Matt Huggins; 18 great grandchildren; 16 great great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
