Judith Anne (Shannon) Wood was born on November 7, 1951 in Creston, Iowa, the first daughter of Charles and Eva Mae (Brown) Shannon. She passed away peacefully on Saturday October 5, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family after battling kidney disease and diabetes.
Judy attended Murray Elementary and Secondary School in Murray, Iowa. She graduated in the class of 1970 from Murray High School. She then attended nursing school at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Iowa. She completed her Licensed Practical Nurse degree from SWCC. She was united in marriage on September 25, 1971 to Larry Wood, and they became the parents of 3 children: Sheila, Dallas, and Scott.
Judy began her nursing career at the Greenfield Hospital soon after graduation from nursing school. She took some time off to mother her three children and became known as the neighborhood babysitter. She loved her daycare children as her own and stayed in touch with several of them as adults. She then started working at the Fontanelle Good Samaritan Center. She worked as the night charge nurse and later day charge nurse for over 30 years. She loved all of her residents and went the extra mile to ensure they felt loved and cared for. To finish her nursing career she did home care for a homebound patient whom she loved and cared for each night.
Judy was active in numerous church groups. Faith and family were always close to Judy’s heart. She was an active member of the Greenfield United Methodist Church where she participated in church choir and multiple Bible studies. She was well known for her Prayer Shawl ministry and blessed many friends and family members with her beautiful crocheted prayer shawls during times of need. Judy also loved her flower beds and was constantly planting new varieties of flowers for everyone to share. She was known for her beautiful crochet and quilting work. Judy’s greatest joy was always her family, especially her 6 grandchildren who she openly adored.
She was preceded in death by her son, Scott, her parents, Charles and Eva Mae Shannon, niece Kayla Morey, nephew Jonathon Wood, and niece Karen Wood.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, daughter Sheila Juhler, husband David and daughters Isabelle and Sophia of Altoona, IA, and Dallas Wood and fiance Pamela Stokes of Des Moines, IA and daughters Liz and Nevaeh, and sons TJ and Ayden, as well as brother David Shannon and wife Ronda of Murray, IA; sister Donna Morey and husband Steve of West Bend, IA, and brother Bruce Shannon and wife Peggy of Murray, IA; many nieces and nephews, and dear friends.
