Karen Kay Morrison was born on June 2, 1957, the daughter of Lyle and Norma (Henkenius) Schaaf in Massena, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in Atlantic, Iowa. Karen was raised in Massena graduating from Cumberland & Massena High School in 1975. After high school she attended and graduated from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in 1978. After working as a nurse for 37 years, Karen would return to Jennie Edmundson, not as a student, but as a patient in her last months. One of her greatest passions in life was taking care of people and she spent much of her life doing just that. She had a particular interest and skill set in stroke patients which lead to her receiving a Nightingale Nursing Award in the early 2000s. Karen spent just under half of her life living in Colorado during which time she grew a deep love for the Rocky Mountains. She was particularly passionate about her children, grandchildren, family, and church.

Karen leaves behind two children and one son-in-law. Erin Clary (Morrison) and Blake Clary of Sterling, CO and Jacob Morrison of Massena. Her five grandchildren; Matthew, Rheagan, Kaiden, Molly, and Macy Grace of Sterling, CO, and her brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Susan Schaaf of Omaha, NE. Several nieces and nephews including Jill Dolnicek of Denver, CO, Jana Parsons (Schaaf) and her family of Long Island City, NY, and Nathan Schaaf of Evergreen, CO, Kristin Morrison and her family of Bartlesville, OK, Ryan Morrison and his family of Scottsdale, AZ and Adam Morrison of Bartlesville, OK; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Lyle Schaaf and mother Norma Schaaf (Henkenius) of Massena, her sister Colleen Morrison (Schaaf) of Bartlesville, OK and her brother Steven Schaaf of Massena.
