Madeline Lorraine (Miller) Strom passed away Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Iowa City Health Care Center at the age of 84 years.
Celebration of Life Services: Saturday, June 16, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Fontanelle Cemetery. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service.The Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements.
Luncheon: Will follow the burial at the church.
Madeline Lorraine (Miller) Strom was born on May 18, 1927, to Fred and Marjorie (Dilley) Miller in rural Fontanelle, Iowa. She was the oldest of three daughters. Madeline passed away May 17, 2012 at Iowa City Health Care Center at the age of 84 years.
Madeline spent most of her life in Fontanelle. She was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. She graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1944 and graduated with a BA degree from Simpson College in Indianola in 1947. She taught at Orient High School for a year. On May 30, 1948 she was united in marriage to Herman (Louie) Strom at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. To this union three children were born: Larry, Jerry, and Sharon. Madeline and Louie both taught at Truro High School until they purchased and operated Strom’s Grocery for 34 years from 1952 until 1986.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; brother-in-law, William Sandholm; brother-in-law, Leo Jacobson; infant granddaughter, Jennifer; and son-in-law Tom Milani.
Madeline is survived by her children, Larry (wife, Kathy) of Phoenix, Az., Jerry (wife, Melody) of Iowa City, and Sharon Milani of Rockford, Ill; 7 grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Megan, Betsy, Sarah, Jessica, Justin, 6 great grandchildren, sisters Eleanor Sandholm and Mildred Jacobson, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
