Funeral Services: Will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bridgewater United Methodist Church with a luncheon following at the Bridgewater Activity Center. Burial will be in the Massena Center Cemetery. The Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle is in charge of the professional arrangements. Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Lamb Funeral Home in Fontanelle from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Bridgewater United Methodist Church.
Marcia Follmann Frese passed into heaven on January 19th, 2023 in hospice care at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Marcia was born on December 14th, 1946 to Clifford and Mildred (Yarger) Follmann of rural Massena, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Bridgewater with her older brothers, Leonard and Russell Follmann. On school days, Marcia walked to Washington Township country school to attend school there through the 5th grade. After all the country schools were closed, Marcia rode the school bus to the school in Bridgewater through 8th grade. She graduated from the Bridgewater-Fontanelle High School in Fontanelle with the class of 1965. Marcia attended Simpson College and graduated with honors with a B.A. in elementary education in July of 1968.
On August 3, 1968 Marcia married Steve Frese, her high school sweetheart. Theymoved to Mound City, Missouri where Marcia was the first kindergarten teacher. When they moved to Walnut, Iowa she taught second grade. On July 18th, 1972 they were blessed with their daughter Sarah Elaine Frese. On September 10, 1974 they were blessed with their son Paul William Frese. Marcia was a full-time mother for fourteen years then went back to full-time teaching elementary school for another twenty-three years in the Bridgewater-Fontanelle School District and then the Nodaway Valley School District. They moved to Bridgewater in 1974 and Marcia enjoyed being a mother and later a grandmother. Her family was the joy of her life. Marcia was an active member of the Bridgewater Methodist Church. She helped with the Bridgewater Betterment Club activities, was a 4-H leader, and co-chairman of the Bridgewater Centennial Pageant. She was a member of the International and Heartland R.S. Prussia Clubs.
Left to mourn her passing are her loving husband Steve, daughter Sarah Jensen and husband George, son Paul and wife Heather, her grandchildren Ryan Jensen and wife Kathryn, Kate Jensen, Garrison Frese and Justus Frese, brothers Leonard Follmann and wife Dorthy, Russell Follmann, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marcia was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Mildred Follmann, father and mother-in-law Alvin and Ella Frese, and sister-in-law Gail Follmann.
