Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church with burial following in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the church. Pastor Melinda Stonebraker will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements. Open Visitation: Will be held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church.
Memorials: To the family to be established at a later date.
Mardelle Louise Porter was born February 5, 1938, the daughter of George and Grace Sturdy, in Greenfield, IA. She passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at Rock Creek Senior Living Facility in Ankeny, IA.
Mardelle grew up in the town of Greenfield, IA graduating with the class of 1956. 0n March 2, 1958 Mardelle, joined Randall L. Porter in marriage at the United Methodist Church. Together, Mardelle and Randall had four children; Kelli, Jeny, Allison and Matt. In 1969 Mardelle and Randy packed their family up and moved north to Ankeny, for Randall’s job with Briggs Trucking. Mardelle quickly found a job with the Ankeny Community School District, as the “Lunch Lady”. In 1981 Randy and Mardelle found themselves on the move again with another Yellow Freight transfer, this time to the Kansas City, MO area. Mardelle found her calling while in MO within the banking industry. She worked at Kearney Bank and Liberty Saving and Trust until retirement in 1997. In 1997 Mardelle and Randy found their way home, back to Greenfield to reunite with family and friends. Mardelle enjoyed reading, coffee time with friends, traveling with friends and family, Christmas with her family, the Amish, and decorating for the holidays.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Randall Porter. Grace and George Sturdy, parents. Helen (Jim) Jedlicka, sister and brother-in-law. Phyllis (Larry) Jensen, sister and brother-in-law.
She is survived by her children, Kelli Mitchell of Ankeny, Jeny (Skip) Ware of Altoona, Allison Porter (Jeff Hall) of Ankeny, Matt (Kristi) Porter of Ankeny. Six grandchildren, Maggie (Jeb) Passer, Lee (Kaylynn) Steinkamp, Andy (Brittney) Ware, Jacob (Heidi) Mitchell, Nickolas (Maggie Huseman), Brooklynn (Joseph) Weringa), and eight great-grandchildren, Sydney Ware, Lily Passer, Isabelle Ware, Luther Steinkamp, Kane Passer, Iris Steinkamp, Macklin Ware, Maddy Randall. Mardelle is also survived by her two nieces C-Kay Jensen, Courtney (Zeke) Chafe, and two great nieces Gracie and Sophie who held a special place in Martzie’s heart, along with many other nieces, nephews and relatives.
