Funeral Services: Will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Orient United Methodist Church following the committal services at the cemetery.
Open Visitation: Friends may call at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Memorials: Memorials may be directed to the Marie Pool Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Mattie Marie Pool was born to Myrtle (Schrader) and Elmer Carl, west of Williamson, Iowa on March 15, 1915. She passed away November 1, 2019 at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 104.
Marie attended country school near Bridgewater through her sophomore year of high school when she left to help her father on the farm.
Marie was united in marriage to Vergil Pool on December 23, 1933. They farmed west of Richland for many years. To this union four children were born, Betty, Donnie, Norma Jean and Peggy.
Marie was hard working. First helping her father, then Vergil with all aspects of the farm. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners for all her family. She was especially known for her fried chicken. She also enjoyed attending all ball games of her children and grandchildren, playing cards, and quilting. She hand-made special quilts for each of her grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her daughters Betty Sherer of Grundy Center and Peggy Pool of Altoona and son Donnie (wife Adella) of Creston, sister Helen Palma of Greenfield, 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Vergil Pool, parents Myrtle and Elmer Carl, in-laws Ada and Lester Pool, sisters Buelah Pool, Opal Long and Doris Carl, daughter Norma Jean Pool, great-granddaughter Amanda Moore and son-in-law Stanley Sherer.
