Mark Jay Lents was born 1/22/1964 in Greenfield to Jimmie & Betty (McMurphy) Lents.  He passed on 5/11/2024 at his home after a battle with cancer.

Mark graduated from Greenfield High School in 1982.   As a senior, he quarter-backed the Tigers to the 1981 Class 1A State Runner Up title.  He remained life long friends with many of this teammates.  The memories of that season stayed with him his whole life.

After graduation, Mark began his farming adventure.   On 8/25/1984, he married Jayne Lee Brown in the United Methodist Church, Greenfield.  They were blessed with 3 children:  Shawn, Kenneth, & Cassandra.

The kids sporting events were memories he cherished.  Shawn’s football catch at Mt Ayr and college games at Simpson, Kenny’s basketball dunk at state and winning state championship, Cassie’s soccer kicks as goalie making football coaches want her as their kicker, were just some of the memories he loved to recall.

Mark enjoyed the farming life, outdoors and having fun.  He would always make time to sit and enjoy a cold beverage when someone stopped.   Often inviting them to ride in tractor, combine or go for a drive with him.  Raising cattle and watching the newborn calves each spring became his favorite part of the farm.  Although those who helped work cows & calves, may have some stories that challenge this.   He will be remembered for lending a hand to help a neighbor or friend in need.

Mark also enjoyed hunting, fishing and sports.   He loved taking his children and grandchildren fishing, teaching them the proper fishing face!  After his high school football days, he began playing slow pitch softball; well known for his high arching pitch.  He enjoyed watching Kansas City Chiefs and ISU football and basketball.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jayne Lents of Greenfield, two sons, Shawn Lents & wife Amber of Norwalk, Kenneth Lents & wife Whitney of Carlisle, daughter Cassandra Jarosh, & husband Nick of Ankeny.   Seven grandchildren:  Andrew & Lily Lents, Keaton & Brody Lents, Tenley, Charlie, and Marlee Jarosh.  Parents; Jimmie & Betty Lents of Greenfield. Three Sisters; Cindy Shelley & husband Brian of Corydon, Jan Temeyer & husband Vance of Polk City, Kara Schweikert & husband Bob of Greenfield.  Sister In Law; Darla Ernst & husband Greg of Lincoln, Nebraska, Brothers In Law; Steve Brown, Scott Brown both of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.
