Funeral Services: Will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena with burial following the Reno Methodist Cemetery south of Cumberland. Pastor Casey Pelzer will officiate the service. The Lamb Funeral Home in Massena is in charge of the professional arrangements. Open Visitation: Friends may call at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lamb Funeral Home in Massena.
Memorials: To the Mary Schrier Memorial Fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Mary Marie Schrier was born April 8, 1943, the daughter of Erving and Florence (Lamphere) Cords in Elkader, Iowa on the Cords family farm. She passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa, at the age of 79.
Mary grew up on the farm in Elkader and later moved to Dubuque in 1948 after Erving took a job with John Deere Dubuque Works. She graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1961. Mary and her sister Sandra spent a lot of time together taking their horses to various shows and saddle clubs. She worked at Interstate Power in Dubuque for 15 years. On December 28th, 1974, she was united in marriage to Merlin Schrier in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union one son Daniel was born. They lived on their farm near Cumberland all of their married lives.
Mary raised livestock and farmed with Merlin. She enjoyed collecting antiques gas engines and tractors as well as many other antiques. She also enjoyed showing and raising horses, Kansas City Chiefs Football, watching horse races and dog shows. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlin Schrier; and brother, Dennis Cords.
She is survived by her son, Daniel Schrier and wife Billie of Cumberland; two grandsons, Lucas and Logan Schrier; sister, Sandra Spensley and husband Russell of Dubuque, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
