Maxine Herrick

Funeral Services: Will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield with burial at the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Bobby Shomo will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the Cornerstone Fellowship in Greenfield following the committal services at the cemetery.  

Family Visitation: Will be held on Sunday, July 13th, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield. 

Memorials: To the Bethel Baptist Church.

Maxine Olive Herrick, the daughter of Ray J. and Letha (Macy) Rice, was born January 4, 1918, near Greenfield, IA. She passed away at Greenfield Manor on July 10, 2014.

Maxine was raised in Adair County and attended grade school in Harrison Township. She graduated from Greenfield High School in 1935, and after completing Normal Training, she taught three years at Harrison Number Eight country school.

On May 21, 1939, Maxine was united in marriage to Gerald Herrick. To this union four children were born: Randall, Leo, Linda and Stanley. Maxine devoted her life to being a homemaker and farmwife, and was very involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, birds and flowers. She loved her home and lived with a quiet and humble spirit. She was a very committed Christian and a long-time member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served primarily as Sunday school teacher and in Ladies’ Missionary Group.

She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy-three years; her son Randall; her daughter Linda; her infant great-granddaughter Abby Jo; her parents; her brother Audra; and her brother Russell.

Maxine is survived by her daughter-in law Linda Herrick of Stuart; son Leo and wife Connie of Marshalltown; son Stanley and wife Denise of Greenfield; ten grandchildren: Ronda Soenksen and husband Chris of Overland Park, KS; Ron Herrick of Ankeny; Kendall Shomo and husband Bobby of Marshalltown; John Herrick and wife Julie of Corpus Christie, TX; Brent Wilker of Minneapolis, MN; Chad Wilker and wife Staci of Creston; William Herrick and wife Shelby of Menlo; Suzanne Boyd and husband Shane of Urbandale; Joseph Herrick and wife Molly of Greenfield; and Jenny Herrick of Greenfield; twenty-nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.
