Nona Endres

Graveside Services: Will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at the Greenfield Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Keith Schweitzer will officiate the service.  A luncheon will follow the graveside service at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenfield.

Open Visitation: Will be held on Saturday, October 11th at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Memorials: To the Nona Endres memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. 

Nona Marie Endres was born December 24, 1921, the daughter of John and Theresa (Eden) Ernst in Adair, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society in Fontanelle, Iowa, at the age of 92.

Nona grew up in Adair, Iowa and graduated from Adair High School. She went on to attend cosmetology school. On June 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Gaylord Endres. To this union one daughter was born, Gayle.

Nona worked for many years as a cook for the Greenfield Elementary School. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church serving as an officer of L.W.W.L. many times. She was also an active member of the Head-Endres Legion Auxilary. Nona always enjoyed playing cards with her lady groups and later at the Good Samaritan Society with friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gaylord in 2001; brothers, Howard and Paul; and sister, Helen Schiller.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle Cook of Hickory, N.C.; two granddaughters, Michelle Phillips of Asheville, N.C. and Heather Cook of Hickory, N.C.; grandson, Curtis Cook of Asheville, N.C.; five great grandchildren, D.C., Rachel, Niecko, Mia and Sarah; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
