Norma Huff

Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, 10:30 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the church following the burial. Pastor Steven Broers will officiate the service. The Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.  

Open Visitation: Will be held on Friday, October 13, 2017, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Friday evening, October 13th, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Memorials: Memorials may be made to the Norma Huff memorial fund to be established by the family. 

Norma Jean (Queck) Huff passed away peacefully on September 28, 2017 at Greenfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. 

Born August 27, 1930 to Paul and Anna (Weinheimer) Queck, Norma grew up on her family farm outside of Greenfield. She had two brothers, Darrel and Ivan. She was an active, life-long member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle, Iowa. Baptized as an infant, she confirmed her faith on May 28, 1944. Her faith remained an important part of her life, as she regularly volunteered and held many positions in the church including being elected the first female president of the congregation. 

Norma graduated from Greenfield High School in 1948. After high school, she taught in a one-room schoolhouse for a year before attending Iowa State University for one year. She returned to Greenfield and married the love of her life, William (Bill) Huff on February 24, 1952. A shining example of unconditional love and devotion, Bill and Norma’s love story lasted for more than 60 years. Out of that love story, four children - James, Rosanne, David and Mary- were born. She welcomed grandchildren and great grandchildren with open arms and never turned down an opportunity to rock them. She always considered her greatest accomplishment, pride and joy to be her family. 

She worked for more than thirty years at a Greenfield bank, holding several positions from bookkeeper to head teller. She enjoyed helping the people that came into the bank every day.

 In her retirement, Norma enjoyed spending time with the love of her life Bill. Driving by their acreage outside of town, you could find her enjoying time in her flower gardens and chasing Bill on the mower. They also cherished visits to see their children, grandchildren and other family members. 

She enjoyed sewing and quilting projects completed for her family and friends. Whether it was a baby blanket for a new little one, jean quilts or embroidered tea towels, they were always made with love and treasured by those who received them.

Anyone who had her grammy rolls, angel food cakes, homemade cookies, pies or a meal at her house can attest to her exceptional cooking and baking skills. People never walked away from her house with an empty stomach. She LOVED feeding people in all kinds of situations--family gatherings, church events, hunting groups and even when someone just dropped by for a visit. Her door was always open with a homemade goodie to be eaten. She also made numerous cakes for birthdays, weddings and graduations. She was always willing to make which ever of many cake creations her grandkids requested. 

Her family will remember Norma as an example of strength, courage, faith and a fierce love for her family. She taught them the importance of all of these values until the end. 

She is survived by her four children: James Huff and wife Barbara of Vashon, Washington, Rosanne Burg and husband Dan of Bellevue, Nebraska, David Huff and wife Kendalyn of Greenfield, and Mary Johnson and husband Brian of Alexandria, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren, three step grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Her husband, her parents, and her brothers preceded her in death. 

The family of Norma Huff wishes to express their gratitude for all prayers and acts of kindness shown to them in their time of sorrow and invites you to share in a luncheon at the church immediately following the service.
