Phyllis Jean (Frizell) Fox was born July 22, 1939 to Eldon & Gertrude Frizell at their home in rural Greenfield. She went home to be with Jesus on March 19, 2022 in the very same house. She went to country school through 8th grade then graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957. Her first job was at Meredith Publishing in Des Moines where she lived with her brother Glenn for that year. On June 8, 1958 she married Jim Fox, her high school sweetheart. They had four children - Peggy, Darren, Brian & Terry.
Once the kids were school age, she returned to the workforce as a bookkeeper at Feeder Service for 2 years and then at Farmers Co-op for 28 years. But her greatest calling was being a wife, mom, grandma and great grandma. Phyllis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served faithfully in LWML, the funeral dinner committee, quilt guild, and of course - choir director.
Phyllis & Jim loved having friends and family join them at Prairie Meadows, not necessarily to see their horse run, but to have fellowship with them which made all those years of horse racing so very enjoyable for them.
We feel so blessed to have had all her ‘touches of love’ in our lives all these years. She was so selfless, supportive, fun-loving, adventurous (for who owns race horses, but is afraid of horses?!), hard-working, caring and generous. She was a wonderful, gentle and Godly example for family and friends alike.
She is survived by Jim, her husband of 63 years; daughter Peg (Jon) Baier of Clarinda and their children Nicole (Brian) Clark (Brayden, Tucker & Kinley), Jenny Baier, Andrew (Alyson) Baier (Hudson & Quinn); son Darren (Lolita) Fox of Justin, Tx and their children James Fox (Meadow), Camia (Jesse) Mata (Evelynn & Audrey); son Brian (Lori) Fox of Greenfield and their children Sean (Lindsey) Fox (Emersyn & Jasper), Kristin (Brad) Robinson (Shay, Riley & Konnor), Nick Fox (Cheyenne Spahr, fiancee); son Terry (Kelly) Fox of Des Moines and children Jade (Jen) Fox (Raelyn & Jali), Devin (Kristi) Fox (Evirsen), Logan Fox and Wilson Fox; sister Irene Mikkelson and in-laws Carolyn Frizell, Corrine Frizell, Nancy & Therald Arterburn and Dan & Bonnie Fox.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Glenn & Paul, in-laws LaVonne Frizell, Howard Mikkelson, and Marj Teel, nephew Denny Frizell and niece Lori Teel.
Our family wishes to express sincere thankfulness for all your prayers and acts of kindness shown to us in our time of sorrow. Please join us for lunch at Immanuel Lutheran Church following services at the cemetery.
