Celebration of Life Services: Will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield with burial in the Greenfield Cemetery. Pastor Eric Schubert will officiate the service. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal services at the cemetery. The Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.
Open Visitation: Will be held on Tuesday, November 18th, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Greenfield United Methodist Church.
Family Visitation: The family will greet friends on Tuesday evening at the church from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials: To the Randall Porter memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date.
Randall “Arch” Lee Porter was born October 17, 1938, the son of Max and Frieda (Schroeder) Porter in Greenfield, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa, at the age of 76.
Randall grew up in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Mardelle Sturdy on March 2, 1958, in Greenfield, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Kelli, Jeny, Allison and Matt. He had a 31 year career with Yellow Freight. He retired in 1997 and after retirement he returned to Greenfield to reunite with his family and friends. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, antiquing, having coffee with his friends, going on fishing trips, volunteering driving his older friends to doctor visits and to the airport and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Max Porter.
He is survived by his mother, Frieda Porter of Creston; wife, Mardelle Porter of Greenfield; children, Kelli Mitchell of Ankeny, Jeny (Skip) Ware of Gardner, Kansas, Allison Porter of Ankeny and Matt (Kristi) Porter of Ankeny; six grandchildren, Maggie (Jeb) Passer, Lee (Kaylynn) Steinkamp, Andy (Brittney) Ware, Jake Mitchell, Nick Porter and Brooklynn Porter; three great grandchildren, Sydney Ware, Lily Passer and Izzy Ware; two sisters, Pat Barkalow of Creston and Becky (Jim) Hagen of Creston; sister-in-law, Helen Jedlicka of Council Bluffs; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
