Sandra "Sandy" Lee Mitchell entered her heavenly home on December 31, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on November 13, 1961, to Richard and Nancy Gross, Sandy spent her childhood in Greenfield, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature and cherished time at the family pond. She graduated Greenfield High School in 1980 and married Greg Mitchell, the love of her life, on August 14, 1982, at the Greenfield Lutheran Immanuel Church. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage and built a life filled with love and devotion as parents to their son Matthew, daughter Michelle, and all of their dogs.

Sandy dedicated much of her professional life to serving her community as the Deputy Auditor for Adair County. Her commitment and hard work left a lasting impact on those she worked with and the community she served. After decades of service, Sandy retired in December 2023 to spend more time with her family.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Sandy found immense joy in spending time spoiling her grandchildren, playing cards, vacationing with family, especially to the Lake of the Ozarks, and dancing with her girlfriends late into the night. She will be remembered for the kindness she shared and her most notable attribute, her compassion for animals.

Sandy is survived by her husband Greg Mitchell of Greenfield; son Matthew Mitchell (Paloma Guerrero) and grandson Stetson of Scottsdale, Arizona; daughter Michelle Diers (Nick) and grandchildren Lawson, Weston, and Ava of Marshalltown; sister Lynne Don Carlos (David) of Greenfield; mother Nancy Gross of Greenfield; mother-in-law Irma Mitchell of Greenfield; sister-in-law Kim Pratt (Dave) of Cleveland, Georgia; brother-in-law Jeff Mitchell (Bonnie) of Lakeville Minnesota; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father Richard Gross, father-in-law Ralph Mitchell and her beloved dog Mitch.

May Sandy’s memory bring comfort to all who knew the beautiful person she was as they reflect on a life well-lived and a heart full of love.

Matthew 11:28-30 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light".
