Susan Moreland, 79, of Creston

Susan (Sudie) Moreland died on December 23, 2024 at Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, with husband Steve at her side. In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. Her remains will be returned to California, where she resided the majority of her life.

Susan Fenn was born August 23, 1945 in Portland, Oregon, as the only child to Harris Benjamin Fenn, Jr. and Virginia Sue (Lockwood) Fenn.. She grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and, for a brief time, in Connecticut. Her father was an executive with Allied Chemical (now Honeywell), while her mother was a homemaker. She attended Castilleja School in Palo Alto, California and graduated in 1963 from Woodside (California) High School.

In her adult life, Sudie had a variety of interests and occupations. She modeled, was a clothing buyer for a department store in San Francisco, and owned a clothing store. She eventually migrated to southern California. She was athletic, enjoying her time swimming, playing tennis, and enjoying the California sunshine. In 1983, she was project coordinator for the ‘Four Hour House’ in San Diego, where a television crew and an armada of construction workers built a complete house in 2 hours and 45 minutes, breaking the previous world record. Subsequently, she had a number of executive administrative positions in the San Diego aerospace industry, while faithfully caring for her parents and battling several rounds of cancer. In 1993, she returned to the Bay Area to care for her mother, after the death of her father. Her mother died late that year.

She was an early adopter of the internet, hosting cancer support groups and online social games. Steve Moreland met her through this medium; they eventually married in 1998. She continued to work in the aerospace industry, while he transitioned his career to configuring and implementing financial (accounting) computer systems as a consultant with Oracle Corporation. His work required frequent travel throughout the U.S.. Sudie often enjoyed traveling with him to see various parts of the country. They resided mostly in Northern California and Omaha, and in recent years relocated to Creston to be near Steve’s family. In her last years, Sudie encountered additional medical challenges; Steve retired in late 2021 to fully devote time with her.

Survivors are her husband, Steven Moreland, in-law parents Larry and Deanna Moreland, sister in-law Julie Moreland, in-law niece Andrea Moreland and her daughter Stella Moreland, all of Creston. Sudie was preceded in death by her parents and brother in-law, Tod Moreland.
