Violet Luhrs

Graveside Services: Will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at the Greenfield Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Keith Schweitzer will officiate the service. The Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield is in charge of the professional arrangements.  

Open Visitation: Friends may call at the Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield on Thursday, March 11, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Memorials: May be directed to the Violet Luhrs memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date.  

Violet Lou Luhrs was born April 5, 1928, the daughter of Harry and Nellie (Holtke) Dickey in Grand River Township, Adair County, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Greenfield, Iowa, at the age of 92.

Violet was raised in Harrison Township near Dexter, Iowa. She attended country school thru the 8th grade and earned her GED when she was an adult. On April 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Dale LeRoy Luhrs in Casey, Iowa. To this union two children were born: Dale and Linda. They farmed in Harrison and Prussia Townships in Adair County and lived north of Greenfield for most of their married lives. She loved the farm, working in her yard and especially spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale, Sr. in 2003; and her daughter, Linda Mitchell.

She is survived by her son, Dale Luhrs, Jr. and wife Marla of Fontanelle; three grandchildren, Sean Meyerhoff and wife Penny of Adel, D.J. Luhrs and wife Stacy of Fontanelle and Dani Luhrs Briggs and husband Mike of Bridgewater; four great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Dean Luhrs and wife Alice of Greenfield; other relatives and friends.
