Virgil Schmidt

Funeral Services: Will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. Pastor Ted Weishaupt will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Massena Center Cemetery. 

Family Visitation: The family will greet friends one hour prior to service on Sunday at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena. 

Memorials: To the First Lutheran Church, rural Wiota, Iowa. 

Virgil W. Schmidt was born September 27, 1938, the son of Albert and Amanda (Tibken) Schmidt in Cass County, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic, Iowa, at the age of 75. 

Virgil was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church, rural Wiota. He attended elementary school in Massena and graduated from Massena High School. He was a farmer most of his life. He enjoyed working on cars. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Varel Schmidt; and sister, Virginia Kuesel. 

He is survived by his sister, Verlea Drefke and husband Gary of Norfolk, Nebraska; brother-in-law, George Kuesel of Massena; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
